Belvoir Rail Ltd is proud to continue its support for local schools through the Primary Engineer programme, an initiative that brings real-world engineering into the classroom and inspires the next generation of engineers.
In partnership with Alstom, Loram UK Ltd, East Midlands Railway, DB ESG, Wabtec UK, and Rail Forum, we have worked with 16 schools across Derby to help pupils design and build their own working model rail vehicles.
Guided by industry professionals, these pupils have developed valuable STEM skills through hands-on learning, teamwork and creativity.
The programme culminated in a special celebration event on Friday 2 May, where pupils gathered to test their model rail vehicles and showcase what they had achieved.
The event was a vibrant display of energy and innovation, with pupils proudly demonstrating their models to teachers and industry mentors. It was a chance not only to test their builds but to celebrate the learning journey they have been on.
Nathan Wallace, Assembly Engineer and Project Sponsor at Belvoir Rail, said:
“Working with schools and pupils through the Primary Engineer programme has been an absolute delight. Their creations and early engineering ingenuity are outstanding. Seeing their confidence grow and watching them present their ideas at the celebration event was a real highlight for us all.”
Primary Engineer helps make STEM subjects accessible and exciting, showing young people that engineering is a career open to everyone.
The celebration event was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when education and industry come together to inspire the next generation.
Belvoir Rail remains committed to supporting young people in STEM and looks forward to continuing its involvement in programmes that build skills, spark curiosity and support future careers.
