Belvoir Rail Sponsors Rail Fellowship Awards at RIA Parliamentary Reception

The Belvoir Rail team attended the Railway Industry Association (RIA) Parliamentary Reception in Westminster on 14 January 2025, an annual event that brings together rail industry leaders and parliamentarians to discuss key topics shaping the sector and hear directly from policymakers about the future of UK rail.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the Rail Fellowship Programme awards, which celebrate parliamentary individuals for their efforts to engage with the rail sector. This year, we were especially proud to sponsor the awards and even prouder to have designed and produced them ourselves.

Nathan Wallace, Design and Assembly Technician who led the design and manufacturing process, shared his inspiration behind the award:

"I wanted the award to represent the heart of the rail industry, always moving, always evolving. The spiral and circular design symbolise that constant cycle of progress. Rail isn’t static; it’s an industry that never stops, and I wanted that motion to be reflected in the design."

"The two different rail sizes used in the design were a deliberate choice too. For me, they highlight how rail matters at every level, from the high-speed trains and freight services that power the economy, right down to the supply chain that keep the industry ticking. It’s a reminder of everything rail connects, big and small. Hopefully, it’s an award that feels meaningful to those who receive it".

Senior leaders, MPs, and Ministers who attended the event included Peter, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill, Rail Minister; Gareth Bacon MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport; Paul Kohler MP, Liberal Democrats Transport Spokesperson; and Sir Andrew Haines OBE, Chief Executive of Network Rail.

What is the RIA Rail Fellowship Programme?

The RIA Rail Fellowship Programme is an initiative designed to engage politicians on the crucial role rail plays in the UK economy. It places MPs and Peers on-site at rail facilities, where they can see first-hand the expertise and innovation that drive the industry.

Each participating Rail Fellow spends time with a rail supply company, learning about the work being done in areas relevant to their constituency or policy focus. They then join the annual RIA Rail Fellowship Class, where their engagement and commitment to the rail sector are formally recognised.

Showing What We Do Best

In 2024, we had the honour of hosting the Rt Hon Lord Patrick McLoughlin at our facilities in Nottingham, where we showcased our work in rail solutions. His visit was an opportunity for us to highlight how we are helping to improve everything from rolling stock efficiency to onboard safety and security.

Why Political Engagement Matters

Rail is the backbone of the UK’s transport network, and strong relationships with policymakers are essential to ensuring continued investment, innovation, and growth. The Rail Fellowship Programme helps bridge the gap between industry and government, ensuring decision-makers have first-hand insight into the challenges and opportunities facing the rail sector.
